Here’s how things get done: We do them.
We say nothing changes if nothing changes and we must become the change we want to see in the world- all that. We can plan for tomorrow, we can have all the dreams we want.
I can say I want to run a 5k race, but until I sign up to run one, it won’t happen. (I ran my first 5k in 2010.) I can say I want to run a 10k race, but until I sign up to run one, it won’t happen. I just signed up for one about an hour ago. Until I do things, I don’t do them.
I know this makes such logical sense, almost a tautological sense– nothing changes if nothing changes, and we must do things in order to do them.
So I registered for the 10k that I want to run even though I’m scared. Even though committing to things holds me accountable to do them. And now I am running a 10k race in October!
My next step is to pick a day to take the GRE. I know my studying will be more habitual and scheduled once I have a deadline.
Maybe we aren’t always ready for the things we’d like to do in life– and yes, god yes there is a difference between not being ready and not feeling ready– but for the things I AM ready for, I want to take steps towards- because I can be ready for something even when I don’t feel ready.
